about

Originally released as 3 EPs over the course of 5 years, Smoochyface's The History of Light and Shadow began as an exercise in overcoming my grief through the lens of The Legend of Zelda video game series.

As the project continued, it became more of an exploration of musical ideas and a sandbox for collaborators to add their voices to the story. Through this camaraderie, I expanded the project into a 12-song rock opera.

The History of Light and Shadows is about standing back up after you fall. It's about appreciating your flaws and being kind to yourself. It's about fighting for your loved ones -- even when you know you can't win.

But most importantly, it's a message: You can't art direct your entire life. Sometimes you just have to let that sh*t go. Sometimes you have to go where the twilight takes you.

Thanks for listening,

-R.G
